Reinholt lays a single vermilion field over a ground he has scraped back for weeks, so the red arrives late and sits slightly proud of everything under it. Seen up close the surface is not flat: the wax holds the light a beat longer than the paint, which is the delay the whole show is named for.

It is the first of three related fields Reinholt made in the winter of 2025, and the only one on public view.

The exhibition

A show is a held moment, and this one holds colour.

Interval brings together seven artists who each treat a single colour as something with weight and duration rather than as decoration. A red is not applied so much as arrived at; a blue is made to sit heavily; a green is left to settle. Across painting, print, textile and cast bronze, the works share a patience about how a colour reaches the eye.

Verge is a gallery on Kloosterstraat in Antwerp's south, in a former cooperage restored to a single top-lit room and a lower vault. Since 2014 we have shown one exhibition at a time and given it the whole building. We represent no artists and sell nothing from the walls; works are placed through the artists' own galleries, and the space exists to be looked at.

“A colour you can name too quickly hasn't arrived yet. These artists make you wait for it.”
