Transactional email · One API call

Every email franked, sorted and delivered.

Franked is a sending API for the email your product writes: receipts, magic links, digests, alerts. One POST and it goes first class. SPF, DKIM and the awkward conversations with Gmail are our job; you write the message, the post room does the rest.

Part III · Procedure

How it works

Three steps. The first two take ten minutes, once. The third happens a few hundred milliseconds after every call.

  1. Field 01 01

    Verify your domain

Add two DNS records and press verify. Everything you send is signed with your own domain, so mailbox providers know it is really you.

    TXT fk1._domainkeyv=DKIM1; p=MIGf…set

    TXT @v=spf1 include:spf.franked.example ~allset

  2. Field 02 02

    Make one call

POST the message and go back to your product. Retries, throttling and bounce handling are all on our side of the counter.

    curl https://api.franked.example/v1/send \
      -u :fk_live_9f2kq7ax \
      -d from="[email protected]" \
      -d to="[email protected]" \
      -d subject="Your receipt (#41172)"
  3. Field 03 03

    Delivered, with a receipt

Every send returns a message-id, and every delivery posts a receipt to your webhook. If something bounces, you hear about it in plain English.

Part V · Questions

Asked often

What counts as transactional email?

Email your product sends to one person because of something they did: receipts, sign-in links, alerts, the digest they subscribed to. Bulk marketing belongs on a separate stream with its own reputation, and we will politely refuse it on this one.

How do you keep deliverability high?

We send from our own numbered IP ranges, warmed and watched around the clock, enforce SPF and DKIM on every domain, and hold feedback loops with the major providers. Bounces and complaints go straight onto your suppression list before the next send.

Do I need a dedicated IP?

Under about 500,000 emails a month, no: the shared pools are steadier because their volume never dips. Above that, a dedicated IP is worth having, and we warm it for you over two weeks before it carries anything that matters.

Which DNS records do I set?

Two TXT records: a DKIM key and an SPF include. A DMARC record and a custom return-path CNAME are optional but recommended. The verifier checks them when you press the button and re-checks nightly.

Where is my data held?

London and Dublin, and you can pin an account to either. Message content is held for your history window, 3 or 45 days, then only metadata remains: addresses, timestamps and delivery events.

What happens if my volume spikes?

The API never throttles you; the queue absorbs the spike and we smooth the rate out to each provider so your reputation is not spent in one afternoon. You pay the metered rate and nothing else.
