New writing · bold revivals · a good seat from every row

A performer in a weathered coat standing on a stark stage scattered with maps and pale sea salt.

A Map of Salt

On a storm-bent island, a cartographer and her estranged son redraw a coastline that will not stay still. A new play about memory, erosion and the stories a family edits out.

The building and the work

Small enough to hear a breath. Big enough to make a world.

House Lights began in a disused cutlery workshop in 1987. The workshop became a 286-seat theatre, but the founding idea held: artists should have room to risk something, and audiences should never feel kept at a distance.

We make four in-house productions each year, host visiting companies, and keep at least twenty seats at £10 for every performance.
