Magazine Website Templates

These are complete sites for publishing: a print magazine, a regional news site, a tech news and reviews publication, an investigative story and an editorial page, each shipped with real articles rather than placeholder headings. The motion follows the reading, so the page moves when the reader does and stays still while they read.

What a magazine or long-read site has to do

A reader who has arrived at a long piece wants to know what it is, how long it is and where they are in it, and then to be left alone to read. Most publishing templates answer with a card grid and a hero image. The templates here are built around typography: a real reading measure, proper columns, drop caps, pull quotes and folio details, with animation saved for the moments that help the reader follow the story.

The magazine template is a five-page site for an independent print magazine. The current issue lies on a stone tabletop and visitors drag it open to thumb through its spreads, with a contents page, a reusable story page, a table of back-issue covers and a subscription builder. It suits zines, journals and small presses as well as quarterlies.

The tech news template is a nine-page news and reviews site on true black, cut by slanted colour bands, with CSS duotone photographs and headlines that run the width of the window. It carries a filterable story wall, a score wall that sorts by score, price or repairability, a draggable comparison of two phones and a long read whose redaction bars lift as you scroll, and it suits gaming, science, finance and local news as well as technology.

The scrollytelling template is a finished piece of investigative journalism for any long-form story that argues from evidence. Three locked stages hold a media column in place while the reporting scrolls past, crossfading photograph to photograph step by step, and in the evidence section the redaction bars on three documents wipe away under the reader's scroll. It comes with the newsroom furniture: masthead, byline rule, numbered findings, exhibit stamps, a right-of-reply block and a method note.

The news and magazine template is a ten-page site for a regional paper: a giant nameplate on a colour band, a numbered rail, a lead story and a running Latest feed, with a section page, an article, an author page and three long reads, about forty written stories in all, and five palettes that repaint the whole site. Readers can draw what they think a price did on a chart and then see what it did. The editorial one-page template takes its identity from print discipline rather than a publication: a cover that exists twice, chalk on top and an ink negative beneath, revealed through a soft aperture that follows the cursor, and it suits a studio, a personal site or a manifesto as well.

How to put your issue or story into a magazine template

Every template ships with a finished article, so making it yours is mostly a copy job and a short colour repaint.

  1. 1

    Replace the article text

Headlines, standfirsts, body copy and pull quotes are plain HTML in reading order. Paste your own piece over the shipped one, keeping the structure of its chapters, steps or story cards.

  2. 2

Delete the sections you do not need

Every section is guarded, so the stockists, a story stage, the documents, a score wall or a comparison can be removed and the rest of the page keeps working.

  3. 3

    Swap the photographs and figures

Photographs ship as graded WebP files with a manifest for replacing them as a set. The editorial page uses no image files at all.

  4. 4

Repaint the palette and connect the links

Each template reskins from three or four colour tokens with their RGB triples, and the stylesheet header lists the measured contrast. Point subscribe buttons at your checkout or mailing list and contact links at your inbox.

Frequently asked questions

Do these templates include a CMS or a subscription system?

No. Each one is static pages with the content in plain HTML and no build step. The subscribe forms and buttons are unwired front ends ready to point at your own checkout, a Stripe payment link or your mailing list, and there is no paywall or account system behind them.

Can I publish more than one article?

Yes. The magazine, news and tech news templates ship several pages, with a story page to duplicate for each new article and section pages that list them. The scrollytelling and editorial templates are one page built for one story, so for a series copy the folder per piece and link them from your own index.

Are they readable without JavaScript or with reduced motion?

Yes. With JavaScript off or reduced motion on, every story reads in full: pinned stages become stacked figures and paragraphs, filter chips become links, comparisons show their whole table and redacted documents read unredacted. Redacted text is available to screen readers throughout.

Will one of these suit a report, research paper or campaign?

Yes. The scrollytelling template suits research, policy and campaign reports as well as journalism, and the news and magazine template's three long reads suit a chaptered feature, an oral history or a photo essay. The editorial one-page template suits a studio, a personal site or a manifesto.
